Netflix Reopens Historic Hollywood Theatre

In terms of historical places in Hollywood, the Egyptian Theatre holds a critical position. It is not only one of the first theaters in the industry, but it also hosted the first red carpet event during the silent film era.

Now, Netflix is attempting to re-open this iconic theater for the public, in an oxymoronic sense, considering they were the ones who initiated the trend of watching films at home. Almost three years ago, Netflix began investing money to restore the theater while preserving its original designs.

During the restoration, Netflix made significant updates to the projection and sound equipment. The entire cost came to $70 million, but the streaming giant secured this iconic spot.

“If you had witnessed the theater’s journey over the past few years before we could step in and make these improvements, you would have noticed it bore every mark of its century-long existence. Being able to restore it, especially as it’s such a lovely movie house, fills us with immense pride,” shared Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos in a recent chat with the media.

Netflix will now use it to organize movie premieres, starting with ‘The Killer’ on the 9th. The premieres and events will occur on weekdays, while on weekends, it will revert to its old and classic era.
