Now, it is always said that if you want to better yourself, you might need to push your limits and challenge yourself. But WB took it in a completely literal sense as they will be competing with themselves at the box office in an impractical way.
The month of December will surely be a happening one, but all the big releases are indeed from the house of Warner Bros, and practically, they will be competing with themselves. The studio will have three major releases in a span of 10 days, and the strategy might be questionable.
On 20th December, WB will be releasing Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom as the last straw of the old DC. Now, this won’t be the biggest deal, but for hardcore DC fans, they will obviously go for it. Given the recent struggles of DC, after the massive flop of The Flash and Blue Beetle, Aquaman needs more attention.
The Color Purple will also be released on Christmas day and has been portrayed as one of the most anticipated films of the year. The novel is already one of the most famous ones, and the adaptation will garner equal attention if not more. So, if you think this was enough, WB had other plans.
Timothée Chalamet’s adaptation of Wonka will hit the screens on 29th December. Let’s clap for the geniuses!
Now, it might have worked for Barbie and Oppenheimer, but they are all from different studios. WB might think that the holiday spirit will draw people to the theaters, and they are correct in a sense, but the screen splits will cause significant harm to the business.
Especially for a movie like Aquaman, which might definitely sink like DC’s waning faith, along with the restart will affect the business. Also, The Color Purple will not be everyone’s cup of tea, along with Wonka, who is definitely showing promise but might be significantly affected.
Lately, with the people’s trust in WB waning, the studio’s intelligence also seems to be on the decline. From postponing Dune to allowing three movies to clash, which are practically no Barbie or Oppenheimer, they are in the downward phase of their journey.
So yes, WB is not only putting their name on the death note, but they are also jeopardizing three movies. The reality might be very different from the predictions, but as of now, we can only speculate.
