A R Rahman composed the music for ‘Indian’ which was released almost three decades ago in 1996.

Songs like Telephone Dhwani La, Maaya Maschindra, Pachchani Chilukalu, and Adireti songs became huge blockbusters on the pan-India level.

Shankar says that the decision to opt for Anirudh over AR Rahman for the music of Indian 2 was driven by practicality and artistic preference.

AR Rahman was already committed to other projects, including the BGM of 2.0. Director S Shankar needed timely delivery of songs for Indian 2 and chose not to overwhelm Rahman with additional responsibilities.

Shankar also appreciated Anirudh’s widespread popularity and felt his musical style would resonate well with the film’s narrative and today’s audience. This influenced his decision to collaborate with Anirudh for Indian 2.

Although the music of Indian 2 has received a mixed response so far, there is optimism that the songs will gain popularity once the film is released and audiences experience them in the context of the storyline.
