Game Changer’s Biggest Ray of Hope

Director Shankar

Shankar is considered to be one of the most visionary directors of India. Before SS Rajamouli took over, Shankar was considered the pride of Indian cinema with films like Gentleman, Indian, Oke Okkadu, Aparichitudu, and Robo.

Since then he hasn’t made a film that lives up to his brand or vision. His latest film, Indian 2, completely damaged his reputation and created doubts among his fans that has Shankar become outdated. Is Shankar’s era finally over?

Fans are terrified of what they have in store with Ram Charan’s Game Changer being Shankar’s next film after Indian 2. The film has been three years in the making and has still not been released because Shankar was simultaneously directing Indian 2.

Indian 2 has sunk beyond trace and now fears are about Game Changer.

However, there is some light at the end of the tunnel.

After Robo, all of Shankar’s films have been either sequels or remakes and all of them turned out to be underwhelming.

* Nanban (2012) was a remake of 3 Idiots and it didn’t match the original.
* I (2015) was loosely based on The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Beauty and the Beast and it did average business
* 2.0 (2018) was a sequel to Robo which did huge numbers but was still considered a disappointment due to high costs.
* Indian 2 is a disaster of epic proportions.

Whenever Shankar has attempted an original film, he has always succeeded. He faltered only when directing remakes or sequels.

Game Changer is Shankar’s original movie after more than 14 years. So that factor is giving a ray of hope to Ram Charan fans that Shankar might finally find his lost mojo, reinvent his creative spark, and deliver a solid film.
