Telugu cinema has always been one of the most welcoming industries when it comes to films from other languages. Whether it is Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada or Hindi cinema, Telugu audiences have repeatedly embraced films beyond their own industry when the content connects.
We are seeing the same again now. Films like DC and Vishwanath And Sons are getting a very good response in the Telugu states, in some cases even bigger than what they are getting in their own territory.
But when it comes to Telugu films outside the Telugu states, the situation looks completely different. The latest example is Irumudi in Chennai. The Tamil version has reportedly been given just six shows, while even the Telugu version has not received much showcasing.
Of course, exhibitors will always look at demand, previous performance and local audience preferences before allocating screens. But shouldn’t the same opportunity be given to Telugu films as well?
If Telugu audiences are willing to welcome films from other industries with open arms, it is only fair to expect the same treatment for Telugu cinema too.
