Naveen Polishetty’s Next: Is He Wasting His Prime Years?

Naveen Polishetty career

After delivering Anaganaga Oka Raju, Naveen Polishetty is all set to collaborate with Siren director Antony Bhagyaraj for a new entertainer. The film will reportedly be produced by Mythri Movie Makers. Sources say the script is in its final stages, with an official announcement expected by the end of this year. If everything goes according to plan, the film will go on floors in 2027.

Interestingly, Mythri Movie Makers has reportedly given Naveen complete creative freedom. The actor is also expected to take home a hefty remuneration along with a share of the profits, reflecting the banner’s confidence in his script judgment and growing market.

Naveen is also continuing another interesting trend in his career. Just like his previous films, he is once again backing a relatively new director. Many believe this approach gives him greater creative involvement and better control over the final product.

His script selection has undoubtedly been consistently impressive, but his pace has been painfully slow.

He made his debut as a lead with Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya in 2019, followed by Jathi Ratnalu in 2021, Miss Shetty Mr Polishetty in 2023, and Anaganaga Oka Raju in 2026. With this new project expected to begin only next year, audiences may have to wait until late 2027 or even early 2028 for his next release. That means nearly a decade could pass with just five films as a solo hero.

Unlike stars working on Rs. 500-1000 crore pan-India spectacles that naturally take years to complete, Naveen primarily operates in the mid-budget space. These films usually do not require such lengthy production cycles. That is why many feel he is underutilizing his potential.

Naveen has earned credibility among audiences. Today, he is one of the very few mid-range stars whose name alone can pull audiences to theatres, provided the content is promising. In an era where many medium-budget films struggle to pull audience, actors like Naveen are extremely important for the industry. Telugu cinema needs more reliable stars who can consistently make content-driven, mid-budget entertainers work at the box office.

Many believe he could comfortably deliver at least two films every year without compromising on quality. Doing so would not only strengthen his own market but also benefit the industry by providing dependable theatrical content.

If he continues taking three to four years even for mid-budget films, there is always the risk of losing momentum in an industry that moves very quickly. Long gaps can make it difficult to sustain the excitement built by each success.

Perhaps the bigger challenge for Naveen is finding the right balance between quality and quantity. Because today, his biggest strength, his careful approach to choosing films, is slowly starting to look like his biggest weakness.
