Another Wicket Down: After Ram Charan, It’s Ram Now

Ram Pothineni drops Ustaad title

Actor Ram Pothineni recently announced that the shooting of his new film Andhra King Thaluka has been completed. Sharing the update on social media, he thanked his team and fans and confirmed that the movie will hit theatres on November 28.

However, what caught everyone’s attention was his decision to bring back his old tag, “Energetic Star,” while quietly dropping the “Ustaad” title that he had been using for the past few years. Fans immediately noticed the change, which reminded many of what recently happened with Ram Charan.

Just two days ago, Ram Charan removed the “Global Star” tag and reverted to his earlier title, “Mega Power Star.” After the worldwide success of RRR, his team tried to project him as a “Global Star.” But the tag felt exaggerated to many. Following the disastrous box office results of Acharya and Game Changer, Ram Charan seems to have understood the backlash and wisely dropped it.

Now, Ram Pothineni’s move to go back to “Energetic Star” has triggered a similar discussion. Many feel that instead of bringing back an old tag, he could have simply gone with his name, “Ram Pothineni,” or his nickname, “RaPo.” The “Energetic Star” label sounds outdated, silly, unnecessary, and more like a spoof in today’s context.

These star titles once worked as marketing tools in the 2000s. But the trend feels irrelevant now. Except for timeless titles like “Megastar” or “Superstar,” most other tags sound forced and even childish. It would have been refreshing if Ram had dropped the title altogether and set an example for other stars by showing that talent and charisma need no labels.
