The obsession with external hype is overshadowing the potential that exists within our own industry.

Crores are being poured into Tamil filmmakers—many of whom haven’t delivered a proper hit in recent times.

Directors like A.R. Murugadoss, Lingusamy, Venkat Prabhu, Mohan Raja, and even Shankar have failed to make a mark with their Telugu ventures. Yet, Tollywood producers keep queuing up, chasing their past glory rather than present merit.

In contrast, promising Telugu directors continue to struggle for recognition and support. The irony is glaring—Tamil producers rarely offer similar opportunities to Telugu talent.

Just look at the facts: Varisu was directed by a Telugu director, Vamshi Paidipally, but produced by Telugu’s Dil Raju. Sir was backed by Naga Vamsi. Even Suriya’s upcoming Telugu film is being funded by a Telugu banner.

Tamil cinema continues to support its own talent fiercely, while Tollywood remains stuck in a cycle of external validation. Barring Rajamouli, few Telugu directors enjoy visibility in Tamil cinema.




It’s high time Telugu producers pause and reflect. Investing in raw, hungry, and capable local directors isn’t just an act of industry loyalty—it’s a sound business strategy.
