Are Telugu Stars Brave Enough for Real Collections?

Tollywood fans demand e-ticketing system

Tollywood fans are demanding e-ticketing after Kerala reformed its box office system. India’s film industry earns thousands of crores every year. In 2023, hits like Pathaan, Jawan, Gadar 2, and Animal pushed collections past Rs. 12,000 crores. In 2024, Pushpa 2, Stree 2, and Kalki 2898 AD kept the momentum with Rs. 11,833 crores.

With such huge revenue, many have asked for more transparency in ticketing. The government has also shown interest in introducing reforms to stop manipulation in box office numbers. This has become a pressing issue for both fans and industry watchers.

Kerala recently took the first step by signing an agreement with the Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC) and the Digital University of Kerala. They are building an e-ticketing system to track sales in real time, prevent tax evasion, and manage revenue better. The system is expected to roll out by February.

The new setup will bring complete transparency. Viewers will get a smoother booking process, while the industry will receive accurate details about collections and audience turnout. It marks a big change for Mollywood and sets an example for other states.

Inspired by this, fans in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are asking for the same reform. They believe e-ticketing will expose real box office numbers and stop inflated claims. The earlier Andhra Pradesh government had considered a Rentrak-style system, but it never moved forward. Now, netizens want the Telugu states to act.

The debate is growing sharper. Many say Tollywood needs courage to accept this level of honesty. For now, box office pride is still tied to inflated figures that boost heroes’ egos more than they reflect true audience support.
