Accenture Seeks Land for Campus in Vizag

Accenture plans new campus in Vizag

Accenture has submitted a proposal to the Andhra Pradesh government for a 10-acre, 12,000-seat campus in Vizag. The company has asked for terms similar to those provided earlier to TCS and Cognizant by the state.

The government had previously allotted land at 0.99 rupees per acre to firms willing to create local employment. Accenture currently employs 3,00,000 people in India out of its global workforce of 7,90,000, making it one of the largest IT employers.

In its request, Accenture sought 10 acres of land, and the proposal is under consideration. While the government is eager to bring the company to Vizag, no timeline for the project has been finalised yet.

Details of Accenture’s planned investment remain unclear. TCS and Cognizant together are set to create 20,000 jobs in Vizag, with Cognizant investing $183 million and TCS $154 million to expand operations.

Big tech firms are increasingly turning to Tier 2 cities like Vizag due to lower land costs, affordable wages, and reduced rent. Since the pandemic, many companies have also preferred hiring locally instead of depending on migration to major hubs.

Accenture’s move comes as the US administration under Donald Trump imposed a $1 lakh fee for H1-B visas, which are widely used by IT firms to hire skilled foreign talent.
