Amaravati, the capital of Andhra Pradesh, is finally getting a fresh start. After the NDA alliance returned to power, construction of the capital has resumed.
In the previous term, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy had halted the Amaravati project. This decision was driven by his political rivalry with Chandrababu Naidu. As a result, the capital project suffered badly.
The Andhra Pradesh Assembly passed a resolution to send a bill to the central government. The aim is to get legal approval from Parliament to recognize Amaravati as the only capital of Andhra Pradesh.
Whether one agrees or not, it is clear that the capital became a victim of political conflict. This move also affected Jagan’s image and led to a embarrassing electoral defeat.
During the Assembly discussions, one common concern stood out. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and Minister Nara Lokesh all raised the same question: what happens if Jagan returns to power again?

It is unfortunate that even more than a decade after bifurcation, Andhra Pradesh still struggles with the capital issue. In many ways, it remains a state without a capital.
Even with a strong majority in the Assembly, there is still uncertainty. Not just leaders, but the public also share this concern. If Jagan comes back to power, will Amaravati once again suffer due to his hatred?
This fear reflects the larger issue of instability around the capital.
Now, all eyes are on the central government and Parliament to give legal sanctity for Amaravati and save the state’s capital.
