AP: Rs 10,000 Cr Pumped In For Development of Cities

The Chandrababu Naidu government is moving strategically to develop Amaravati and other major cities across Andhra Pradesh. A major step has been taken to improve drinking water supply and drainage systems under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme.

The municipal department announced a ₹10,319.93 crore allocation for 281 projects across the state. Orders were issued on Tuesday to APUFIDC, the Public Health Department, and the Green Buildings Corporation to begin and complete the works.

Funding for the project will come from multiple sources ₹2,470 crore from the Centre, ₹2,490 crore from the state, ₹925 crore from the Finance Commission, and ₹590 crore from the cities. The total capital expenditure will be ₹6,477 crore. Maintenance costs for 10 years are estimated at ₹1,499 crore, and interest at ₹2,344 crore, bringing the total to ₹10,319.93 crore.

The municipal department has also instructed implementing bodies to deposit a security amount but clarified that no deductions will be made as the works progress. APUFIDC has been authorised to collect funds from the state and cities for execution.

This project marks the largest-ever investment by the Andhra Pradesh government in urban development. When completed, it will set a new record for infrastructure spending in the state.
