Speaking at the Rythu Nestham program, Revanth said that due to the deficit rainfall last year, the levels of groundwater have decreased, leading to severe water scarcity in many regions across the state, including Hyderabad.

He stated that the water levels have been decreasing in all reservoirs and alerted farmers to realise the situation and cooperate with the government in fighting against the drought.

Hyderabad is also expected to face a water crisis as the officials said that in addition to the existing 550 million gallons per day, an additional water supply of 50 million gallons per day is needed for the city.

As of now, Hyderabad is getting its water from Osman Sagar, Himayat Sagar, Krishna, Godavari and Manjeera. Minister Ponnam Prabhakar ordered the officials to fetch water from the Yellampalli project if needed.

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board is also pumping water daily from the Nagarjuna Sagar.

Bengaluru also faced a similar water crisis due to the decrease in the groundwater levels of river Cauveri, causing inconvenience to the public. Now, Hyderabad may also face a similar challenge.
