The results of the by-polls conducted in 13 assembly seats of seven states are being announced today. As it these are the first elections after the Lok Sabha polls, there was a lot of anticipation around the results.

These by-elections were held either due to the death of the MLAs or due to their resignations. Out of these 13 seats, the Congress-led INDIA bloc is continuing its dominance over the BJP-led NDA bloc.
While INDIA-bloc is winning 11 seats, the BJP is confined to only one victory. In one seat, an independent candidate is heading towards victory.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s wife Kamlesh Thakur won the Dehra assembly seat, representing the Congress Party. This is Congress’s first victory in this seat. In Nalagarh, Congress candidate Hardeep Singh Bawa won with a majority of over 8000 votes. In Hamirpur, BJP’s Ashish Sharma secured a victory.
In West Bengal, the ruling Trinamool Congress Party Raiganj, Ranaghat Dakshin and Bagda assembly seats. It is leading in the Manikatala constituency and is expected to win this seat as well. TMC is a part of the INDI alliance.

In Uttarakhand, Congress won the Manglaur assembly seat with a majority of just 900 votes. On the other side, Congress is leading in the Badrinath constituency with a majority of over 5000 votes against BJP.
In Punjab, AAP candidate Mohinder Bhagat won against BJP candidate with a majority of over 37000 votes. Even AAP is a part of the INDIA bloc.
In Tamil Nadu’s Vikravandi constituency, DMK candidate Anniyur Siva is leading over Pattali Makkal Katchi candidate, Anbumani, with a margin of 35000 votes.
In Madhya Pradesh’s Amarwara constituency, Congress’s Dheeran Sah Sukharam Das Invati is leading over BJP’s Kamlesh Pratap Shah.
In Bihar’s Rupauli, JD (U) candidate Kaladhar Prasad Mandal is trailing behind independent contestant, Shankar Singh by over 1000 votes.
This is indeed a huge shock to BJP, which has dominated the Northern part of India over a decade.
