Auctioning laddoos during Ganesh festivities is a cherished tradition. The bigger or older the pandal, the higher the bidding price. Devout businessmen often bid lakhs to win these laddoos.
This year, the laddoo at My Home Bhooja in Rayadurg was auctioned for a staggering Rs 51,77,777. The winning bid came from a man named Ganesh from Illandu.
Last year, the same laddoo was auctioned for Rs 29 lakh, and Ganesh also won that bid.
In 2024, the famous Balapur laddoo was auctioned for Rs 30 lakh. The proceeds go towards temple upkeep and village development.
In contrast, the largest Ganesha laddoo at Khairatabad is donated by a sweet-maker and given free as prasadam, not auctioned.
Traditionally, the laddoo auction happens in the morning after visarjan. Though not religiously significant, the money raised supports welfare activities. It remains a meaningful ritual in Ganesh celebrations.
