Hyderabad finished its festive shopping spree on Wednesday, a day before Dassera. The celebrations began with Bathukamma and ended with record purchases. While clothes and gold are usually the focus, this year vehicles topped the charts thanks to GST cuts.
Electronic goods and home appliances also saw heavy demand. Offline stores lost ground to online platforms, but the city still spent around Rs 4000 crore in total. Buyers clearly preferred bigger investments during this festival season.
Over 10,000 cars and 30,000 bikes rolled out after GST benefits kicked in on September 22. Dealers added discounts to push sales further. Vehicle sales alone touched Rs 1000 crore in ten days, a 40% jump from last year, according to shop owners.
Shopping malls in Gachibowli, Kukatpally, and Madhapur drew large crowds. Electronics and home appliances were the top picks. Sellers reported a 25–30% rise in demand compared to last year, making malls a key hub for festival shopping.
Clothing brands together recorded Rs 1500 crore in sales. Big stores benefited most, while small shop owners reported a loss of nearly 70–80% this season. The divide between premium outlets and local markets was more visible than ever.
Gold sales brought the only shock. Shop owners reported a 50% drop from last year. Many believe customers chose to hold back, possibly saving for upcoming Diwali shopping instead of investing heavily in gold during Dassera.
