Google Data Center ‘Lured Away’ From Us: K’taka Cong

Karnataka Congress reacts to Google project

The old saying about sour grapes fits Karnataka Congress perfectly right now. Days after Andhra Pradesh finalised its deal with Google, the party took to X and posted a rather bitter response about losing the project.

Their post began sharply: “To all the self-proclaimed experts, WhatsApp graduates, and noise-makers who bark before they think, here are some facts you cannot spin.” The tone set the stage for what came next.

The Congress post claimed Karnataka didn’t lose Google but that the tech giant was “lured away.” It alleged that the $15 billion data centre project went to another state not because of talent but because of massive incentives.

The post listed what Andhra Pradesh allegedly offered: 15 years of free power, 10 years of water at 25% cost, 480 acres of land at throwaway rates, and 100% SGST reimbursement worth ₹2245 crore.

It went on to say Karnataka would never offer such deals, calling them inducements that come at a high public cost. “We don’t beg, plead, or coerce investment,” the post read. “We are India’s No.1 FDI state and Tech Capital, built on talent, integrity, and innovation.”

The post concluded firmly, telling detractors to “learn your facts.” It said Karnataka doesn’t beg or bribe for opportunities but builds them. Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh continues celebrating the arrival of Asia’s biggest Google data centre.
