Visakhapatnam is rapidly turning into a major data center hub. Top tech players are investing in large-scale facilities, and now Reliance Group, along with Digital Connections, will build a 1000 MW data center across 400 acres in Vizag as a joint venture.
The AI-driven facility will cost around Rs 98,000 crore and is expected to be fully operational by 2030. The deal was finalised after discussions with the AP government during the Investment Summit on November 14-15.
Google is already building a 1000 MW center worth Rs 1.33 lakh crore. Brookfield is developing another center of Rs 1.10 lakh crore, while Sify is creating a Rs 16,000 crore data center complex in the city.
The Reliance data center will work alongside its 1000 MW Jamnagar unit. It will use GPUs, tensor processing units and other AI processors to support advanced tech solutions. Sub-stations and dedicated electric feeders will cater to future industry needs, and officials say it will be one of the most advanced AI-based centers in Asia.
With this project, Andhra Pradesh has reached 50% of its 6000 MW data center development target. Talks are underway with three more major tech companies to set up the remaining capacity once initial terms are finalised.
IT Minister Lokesh shared his excitement on X, stating that Vizag is on track to become the data capital of India. The city could soon stand as one of the biggest technology power points in the country.
