A Rs 816 crore hybrid cable-stayed and suspension mega bridge is set to come up across the Krishna river, connecting Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. It will be India’s first bridge of its kind, offering structural strength, visual appeal, and economic advantages.
The bridge will be constructed under the EPC mode, and tenders have already been called. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is focusing on large-scale infrastructure to improve national visibility and connectivity of the Amaravati Capital Region.
Once completed, the bridge is expected to significantly enhance logistics and tourism in both states. The four-lane structure will provide smooth entry and exit points on either side, ensuring better traffic flow.
The bridge pylons will be inspired by South Indian temple gopurams and will feature state symbols. This design aims to blend modern engineering with cultural aesthetics unique to the region.
Travel across the bridge is expected to offer a scenic experience, with panoramic views along the route. A ramp from the bridge will lead to a pedestrian walkway located below the vehicular deck.
Pedestrians will be able to enjoy river views and glimpses of temples on both sides. A glass deck between the walkways is planned, which is being projected as the longest glass pedestrian walkway across a river in the world.
The bridge is expected to become a major tourist attraction. Special facade lighting, scenic surroundings, and its hybrid cable-stayed suspension design will make it a landmark infrastructure project in India.
