Virat Kohli is usually one of the most loved crickets in India, but he came under the pump the other day after he scored a slow-paced 100 that took 67 balls. The commentary on social media is that Kohli’s slow knock kept RCB from going on to get a big score.
Kohli is even being called a selfish cricketer for this slow innings and there are people even commenting that the Indian T20 side must move on from Kohli as he is finding it hard to keep pace with the game.
Coming to the scenario in RCB, Kohli’s knocks can’t be entirely judged based on the deliveries he is taking to get the runs he is scoring. While Kohli held the fort in the game against Rajasthan by scoring a 100, not a single other player stood by him at the crease.
Kohli himself scored 100 while the rest of the batting line-up combined couldn’t score even another 100 while facing nearly as many deliveries. The issue is that Kohli is having to slow down and hold his wicket with the RCB batsmen around him falling like a pack of cards.
But at the same time, Kohli must be aware of the fact that T20 cricket has moved from innings anchor roles, and every player is expected to strike at 200+ strike rate. This is why Kohli’s 150-160 strike rate innings are coming under severe criticism. The sooner Kohli realizes this the better it would be for him.
