The Supreme Court has given its decision on the Telangana defections case. It dismissed the decision given by the Telangana High Court. It said that a decision must be taken by the Speaker within 3 months.
The Supreme Court jury put aside the argument that the Court must take a decision on defecting MLAs. It said that ‘operation success, patient died’ scenario must not happen. The Parliament must bring a law regarding defecting MLAs, the Apex Court said.
Petitions were filed by KTR, Padi Kaushik Reddy, Jagadeesh Reddy, Kalvakuntla Santosh and other BRS leaders asking the Supreme Court to give a ruling that the Speaker must take a decision within a particular time frame regarding the 10 MLAs who defected from BRS to Congress.
They filed petitions on January 15, 2025, and the petitions came for hearing 9 times before the Supreme Court jury. After hearing both sides, the jury reserved judgement on April 3. Counter petitions were filed by Telangana Speaker Gaddam Prasada Kumar and a few other Congress MLAs.
After prolonged hearing, the Court gave its decision on Thursday morning.
