Getting a fancy number plate in Hyderabad and Telangana has officially become a luxury. The Transport Department issued a new notification increasing reservation fees across all premium categories. The government approved GO 77 after receiving no objections to the proposal.
The revised tariff lists sharp hikes, with fees increasing by up to 300 percent. The popular 9999 number now costs Rs 1.5 lakh instead of Rs 50,000. Single digits like 1 and 9 now cost Rs 1 lakh, while numbers like 6666 jumped from Rs 30,000 to Rs 1 lakh.
Officials said the amendments follow Rule 81 of the Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, due to rising demand for premium numbers. The department has revised charges for more than 100 fancy numbers. These numbers remain highly sought after by film personalities, business leaders and public figures.
Khairatabad RTA’s TG 09 series continues to be the most preferred. Fancy numbers generate nearly Rs 100 crore every year for the state. The government also tightened rules by insisting that owners bring their vehicles for registration before claiming the number. Failure to do so in 15 days leads to cancellation.
If more than one person applies for a number, online bidding will take place. All applications for special numbers must be submitted online between 8 am and 1 pm at the official transport portal. Fancy number buyers must now be ready to pay more for exclusivity and status.
