More Trouble for KTR? Revanth’s Snake-and-Ladder Trap Tightens

KTR and Telangana phone tapping investigation

K. T. Rama Rao could be facing another major challenge as the Telangana phone-tapping investigation moves towards a crucial stage. After the Formula E case has kept the BRS Working President under pressure, the latest developments in the phone-tapping probe have brought fresh questions about the alleged surveillance of political rivals during the previous BRS government’s rule. The upcoming supplementary chargesheet could reveal more about who authorised the tapping and how the information was used. Reports suggest that senior BRS leaders could face further scrutiny, though their inclusion as accused remains unconfirmed.

According to reports, the five political figures whose phones were allegedly tapped include Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar, BJP leader Eatala Rajender, former IPS officer and BRS leader RS Praveen Kumar, and Revanth Reddy’s brother Kondal Reddy.

The investigation has already focused on former SIB chief T Prabhakar Rao and former DSP D Praneeth Rao. Allegations that around 50 hard disks were destroyed at the SIB office on December 4th, 2023, added another serious dimension to the case. Senior BRS leaders, including former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, KTR, T Harish Rao and J Santosh Kumar, have also been questioned during the investigation. The BRS has denied allegations of illegal surveillance and accused the Congress government of targeting its leaders.

Will KTR face Arrest this time?

The Formula E case and the phone-tapping probe have kept KTR under pressure. The latest developments raise a crucial question: will the investigation lead to his formal inclusion as an accused or even an arrest? The key point will be whether investigators can establish evidence linking KTR to the alleged surveillance operation. The supplementary chargesheet will prove decisive in determining what happens next.
