Sai Reddy’s Tweet, Just 2 Days Before ED Inquiry, What’s Cooking?

Vijayasai Reddy tweet draws political attention

A tweet by former Rajya Sabha MP Vijayasai Reddy stirred active discussion in Andhra Pradesh political circles. In his post, he warned political leaders about being “held captive by sold-out coteries” and referenced how even a powerful leader in Venezuela was allegedly removed without resistance, implying that close aides being “bought off” can lead to collapse.

Political observers are debating whether this message was aimed at the leadership dynamics within the YSR Congress Party and whether it was a critique of those around Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. Some believe Reddy’s tweet hinted at internal factional problems and a warning that loyal networks could be compromised.

The timing of the tweet is notable. It came just two days before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) directed him to appear for questioning on January 22 in connection with the Andhra Pradesh liquor scam, which allegedly involves financial irregularities and alleged kickbacks linked to state liquor policy dating from 2019–2024.

The ED notice orders Vijay Sai Reddy to cooperate in the investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. It is part of a broader inquiry in which more than ₹3,500 crore is said to have been routed through alleged bribery and irregular transactions within liquor supply contracts.

Political implications remain uncertain. Analysts are asking whether the tweet was intended as pressure or a political signal ahead of the ED questioning. Some see the wording as cautionary, while others query if it’s an attempt to influence public perception of internal political confidence ahead of legal scrutiny. No official confirmation exists that it amounts to blackmail. This remains speculation until further details emerge.

Although Jagan Mohan Reddy has been mentioned repeatedly in media reports and legal documents as being linked to policy decisions in various cases, including the liquor policy, he has not been formally named as an accused in the chargesheets filed so far.
