VIP Break Darshan at Tirumala has long been a subject of debate. Many devotees question why influential people get quicker access while others wait for hours.
But every once in a while, there comes a case that reminds us why exceptions exist.
The story of 116-year-old Navaneethamma is one of them.
After walking to Tirumala despite her remarkable age, a video of the elderly devotee went viral on social media. It soon caught the attention of TTD Chairman B.R. Naidu, who directed officials to trace her and arrange VIP Break Darshan for her and her family.
TTD officials escorted her for darshan, honoured her with Vedic blessings and prasadam. Executive Officer Muddada Ravi Chandra also sought her blessings, making the moment even more special.
This wasn’t about influence or privilege.
It was about recognising extraordinary devotion.
There is a world of difference between giving special treatment to the powerful and showing compassion to someone whose age and faith deserve it.
The episode also showed the positive side of social media. Instead of fuelling controversy, a viral video helped an elderly devotee receive the recognition and care she truly deserved.
The debate over VIP darshan is unlikely to end. But if there is ever a case for making an exception, this was surely one.
Sometimes, the real VIP is not a person with power, but a devotee whose faith has stood the test of time.
