After Narayana Murthy’s 70-hour talk and L&T CEO’s 90-hour work suggestion, here comes another shocker.
And it’s Bill Gates who has spoken with his foresight. The Microsoft founder was on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Falon. Bill Gates said – What will jobs be like? Should we work for 2, 3 days a week?
In the past too, Gates made comments on short work weeks. When ChatGPT entered the market, he said we could be moving towards a three-day work week.
If you look at it, the purpose of human life is not just to do jobs, he said on Trevor Noah’s What Now? podcast.
Shorter work weeks come with their own benefits, say experts. Apparently a reduction of one work day will increase productivity by 24%.
Tokyo’s metropolitan government recently announced a four-day work week to deal with Japan’s dwindling fertility rates. JP Morgan too is talking of 3 and half day work week.
As AI is shaping industries, work is likely to change. Gates said doctors and tutors are two professions that AI could replace. While sports will remain with humans, Gates said AI will lead in manufacturing, agriculture and transportation.
According to LinkedIn, AI literacy is the most acquired skill for 2025. It says that individuals need to adopt a forward-thinking mindset.
