A woman from Noida, Astha Srivastava, recently shared an emotional post about leaving India, which quickly sparked a viral debate on social media. She is heading abroad through the SP Jain Global Twin City Programme, with plans to study in Singapore and Dubai.
In her farewell message, Astha expressed her sadness about leaving the country. She cited the lack of sufficient opportunities in India as one of the main reasons for her decision. She also mentioned that caste-based reservation played a major role in her being unable to secure admission in top Indian universities despite coming close multiple times as a General category student.
Her post struck a chord with many on social media. Several users voiced similar concerns and urged the government to address the ongoing issue of brain drain. Many also questioned the current structure of the reservation system.
While some criticisms were constructive and called for government accountability, a few crossed the line into caste-based hate. This sparked further debate on how to balance merit with social justice.
Many users pointed out that while the system needs reform, removing caste-based reservation entirely is not the answer. They stressed that caste-based discrimination still exists in India. What’s needed, they said, is an increase in opportunities for all sections of society to help India move forward collectively.
