India is dealing with new cases of Covid-19 as the version JN.1, found in Japan, is now going around the nation. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in India says that on Wednesday, India had 761 new cases of Covid and 12 deaths. This added 4,334 total active cases. The JN.1 version has been said in 12 states so far. There are 619 confirmed cases.
In the state of Karnataka, which is really affected, the Covid cases doubled in only one day. On Tuesday, the state said 298 new cases were found and four people died. The rate of tests that came back positive was 5.9%. Out of the new cases, 172 were from Bengaluru itself. This city has 704 active cases. The state has also found 34 cases of JN.1 version, mostly in Bengaluru and Mysuru.
We don’t know why there are more cases, but some think it could be because of the holidays, cold weather, not enough vaccines and people not being careful. A recent study by LocalCircles shows a worrying pattern of not reported cases in Karnataka. Many people don’t want to get tested and stay away from others.
The government has given new rules for people entering from other countries. All travelers must get tested for RT-PCR and stay in quarantine for 14 days. Health groups are telling everyone to act safe from Covid, like wearing masks, staying away from each other and not being in large groups. The government has also increased the vaccine push, trying to get the whole eligible people by March 2024.
