Myopia is commonly known as the problem of seeing further objects, something which is near is clear, but after a certain distance the vision gets blurry.

Due to the exponential amount of screentime, this problem can arise.

Eye doctors said during the Myopia awareness week that one third of all urban children in India, within the age group from 5 to 15 are exposed to this danger.

Dr. Smit M. Bavariya talked about his observation regarding this increasing problem.

According to her, “We currently see many cases of moderate myopia in school-going children between the ages of 5 to 17. In 2017, our survey of 1,000 children aged between 3-15 in an urban slum area of Mumbai found that 200 had myopia.”

He points out that increasing screentime and lack of outdoor activities are the reason such diseases get triggered.

He further added, a decrease in outside activities robs kids of exposure to natural light, which is vital for a child’s healthy eye development.
