Flew from US to Vote! No Name in List

Flew from US to Vote

Voting is every citizen’s right. More than a right, it’s a duty that makes us responsible citizens. Yet, we see very few people actually go to the polling booth to cast their vote, as they don’t consider it important. In contrast, there are always a few incidents in every election where people in their 90s still go to cast their vote.

Recently, an incident involving an NRI named Avdhoot Datar made headlines. He took the initiative to use his voting rights and for that her travelled from the US to his hometown, Kalyan, in Maharashtra. However, when he reached the polling booth, he was surprised to find that his name wasn’t on the voter list. Despite having his voter ID card, he couldn’t vote.

Avdhoot came from the US to Kalyan specifically to vote, but his inability to do so left him disappointed and worried. His story soon spread on social media. On one hand, people praised Avdhoot for his efforts to come to India to vote, while on the other hand, they criticized the government employees for not maintaining accurate voter records.
