Ganesh immersion celebrations in Vizianagaram district turned tragic when a 22-year-old youth, Harish, lost his life, allegedly due to the impact of loud DJ music.
The incident happened in Bobbili’s Bobbadipeta area. Harish was dancing in the procession when he suddenly collapsed. Despite efforts to save him, he was declared dead on the spot.
Witnesses said he was enjoying the festivities with friends before falling unconscious. Locals believe that the blaring DJ sound, along with excitement and exertion, may have triggered a sudden cardiac arrest.
Doctors have repeatedly warned about the dangers of extremely loud music. Heavy bass and strong vibrations can strain the heart and nervous system, especially among youngsters who push their limits while celebrating.
Unfortunately, these warnings often go unnoticed during festivals. DJ music is a major attraction in processions, but its intensity often crosses safe sound levels. Authorities issue guidelines on noise limits, but compliance remains poor.
This is not the first such incident. Similar tragedies linked to loud music during celebrations have been reported across the country, raising concerns about safety in public gatherings.
Celebrations are a vital part of culture, but they should not cost lives. Families of victims are left shattered, as moments of joy turn into lifelong grief.
The death of Harish is a reminder that sound rules must be enforced, and awareness spread about the health risks of extreme noise. Festivals should bring happiness, not sorrow.
