YouTube voluntary exit plan news

At a time when tech companies are cutting jobs, YouTube has taken a different route. The video streaming giant has announced a voluntary exit plan for its US employees.

In a letter to staff, YouTube CEO Neal Mohan said this was part of the platform’s first major product division revamp in ten years. He clarified that no one was being forced to leave and that the move was voluntary.

The company is restructuring its content creation and user experience teams as it leans more on AI for daily operations. The goal is to make YouTube faster and more efficient in adapting to AI-driven tools.

From November 5, YouTube will reorganise its product teams into three categories- viewer products, creator and community products, and subscription products. All these teams will report directly to Neal Mohan.
