Former India batter Aakash Chopra has questioned the way Mohammed Siraj was managed in India’s white ball setup. He said the fast bowler was pushed into the “one format player” category much earlier than expected despite proving his ability across formats.
Aakash Chopra pointed out that there was a period when Siraj was a regular member of India’s Test team but kept losing his place in the ODI and T20I squads. According to Chopra, this happened even though the pacer consistently delivered strong performances for India.
He also expressed surprise over Siraj’s exclusion from both white ball formats. Chopra said the decision was difficult to understand given the responsibility Siraj carried in the Test side for a long time and the impact he made in international cricket.
Chopra’s argument is further strengthened by Siraj’s performances in the IPL. Representing Gujarat Titans, the fast bowler emerged as one of the standout performers of the season and regularly gave his team early breakthroughs with the new ball.
Siraj’s ability to attack the stumps, generate pace and dismiss top order batters played a key role in Gujarat Titans’ campaign. His aggressive bowling style and consistency made him one of the most effective pacers in the tournament.
Although Siraj has been rested for the ongoing ODI series against Afghanistan, Chopra’s remarks have reignited the debate over the pacer’s role in India’s white ball plans. Many believe Siraj remains an important option for India, especially in the ODI format, considering his recent performances and experience.
