England captain Harry Brook has been banned from the Indian Premier League till 2027. The action was taken after he withdrew from the tournament despite being bought at the auction. The move follows a new rule introduced by the BCCI.
The rule aims to prevent overseas players from pulling out after getting selected. It was implemented before the IPL 2025 mega auction. The board decided to act strictly against last minute withdrawals without valid reasons.
Harry Brook recently scored a stunning 100 off 51 balls against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2026. His performance reminded fans of his explosive batting ability. Many supporters are surprised that a player of his quality is now out of the IPL.
The ban is linked to his withdrawal from IPL 2025. As per the new regulation, any overseas player who pulls out after being bought, without a genuine injury reason, faces a two year suspension.
Brook chose to skip IPL 2025 despite being aware of the rule. As a result, he is barred from participating in IPL 2026 and IPL 2027. The decision has sparked debate among fans and experts.
Earlier, he had also withdrawn from IPL 2024 after being bought by Delhi Capitals for Rs 4 crore. However, the strict rule was not in place then, so no action was taken.
In 2025, he was re signed for Rs 6.25 crore before pulling out again. This time, the regulation was active, leading to the suspension. The board applied the rule without exception.
Harry Brook has played only one IPL season so far. He represented Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2023 after being bought for Rs 13.25 crore. He scored 190 runs in 11 innings, including a century, but struggled with consistency.
Brook can return only in IPL 2028 if he enters the mega auction and is picked by a franchise. However, after withdrawing twice, teams may be cautious before placing bids in the future.
