Former India batter Manoj Tiwary has questioned India’s decision to change the opening combination during the second ODI against Afghanistan, saying the move could create confusion within the team.
India opened with Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal in the match, while regular opener Shubman Gill moved down to No. 3.
Although Gill went on to score a brilliant century after the change, Tiwary believes the experiment may lead to uncertainty regarding the batting order in the future.
Manoj Tiwary also questioned the thinking behind the move and said there appears to be a lack of clarity from the team management.
While he welcomed Jaiswal’s inclusion in the ODI side and backed him to play across formats, he felt the decision raised more questions than answers.
The comments have sparked discussion among fans especially with India trying different combinations ahead of major tournaments.
It remains to be seen whether the Rohit Jaiswal opening partnership will continue or if Gill returns to his regular role at the top of the order.
