Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s on field conduct during the India A vs Sri Lanka A tri-series match has triggered discussion among fans, with many wondering whether the young batter could face a ban.
While the incident has attracted attention, an immediate suspension appears unlikely under ICC regulations.
Any review of the matter would fall under Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to inappropriate physical contact during an international match.
The rule allows match officials to examine the circumstances of an incident, including whether the contact was deliberate, reckless or avoidable.
In most cases, offences under Article 2.12 are treated as Level 1 breaches. Such violations generally result in penalties such as a warning, a fine or demerit points rather than an outright suspension.
A ban only becomes a possibility when a player accumulates four demerit points within a 24-month period. There is currently no indication that Sooryavanshi is close to that threshold.
The final call rests with match referee Pradeep Jeyapragash, who can decide whether the incident warrants any disciplinary action.
There is no confirmation that the India A youngster will face a penalty. For now, the discussion remains focused on what action, if any, match officials choose to take following the incident.
