Speculation around Virat Kohli’s future in Test cricket has started once again after recent comments from his childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma. A brief remark made during a podcast has now sparked fresh discussions about a possible comeback.
Kohli officially retired from Test cricket on May 12, 2025, bringing an end to a remarkable red-ball career. Over the years, he played a major role in establishing India as a dominant force in Test cricket across different conditions.
Even after his retirement announcement, many fans continued to discuss the possibility of him returning to the format. The latest round of speculation began when Rajkumar Sharma was asked during a podcast whether Kohli could reconsider his decision.
Sharma revealed that several people still approach him requesting that he speak to Kohli about a comeback. When asked directly if he had discussed the matter with the former Indian captain, Sharma replied, “We are talking about it, let’s see what happens.”
The comment quickly went viral across social media platforms. Many cricket fans interpreted the statement as a possible indication that conversations regarding Kohli’s Test future may still be ongoing behind the scenes.
However, Kohli himself has not made any official statement about returning to Test cricket. He made his Test debut against West Indies cricket team in 2011 and went on to become one of India’s finest modern-day Test batters.
Kohli ended his Test career with 9,230 runs in 123 matches, making him the fourth-highest run scorer for India in the format. As captain, he led India in 68 Test matches and registered 40 victories, which remains the highest for an Indian captain in Test cricket.
At present, there is no confirmation regarding a comeback. The entire discussion is based only on Rajkumar Sharma’s brief remark, while Kohli has not hinted at any change in his retirement plans so far.
Still, the strong reaction online once again highlights Kohli’s lasting influence in Test cricket. Even after retirement, conversations surrounding his legacy and possible return continue to dominate cricket discussions among fans.
