Star Cricketer Shocks All: I Had Suicidal Thoughts

Yuzvendra Chahal opens up on divorce

Yuzvendra Chahal, often known for his lighthearted personality and funny reels, has revealed the painful reality he was living behind the smiles. On the Raj Shamani Podcast, the Indian spinner opened up about his divorce from Dhanashree Verma and the emotional collapse that followed.

The Bombay High Court finalized the divorce on March 20, 2025. While fans saw it as sudden, Chahal admitted the problems had been simmering for a long time. “After my divorce, I was called a cheater. But I’ve never cheated in my life. I’m extremely loyal,” he said.

Chahal confessed that the breakdown pushed him to the edge. “I had suicidal thoughts. I cried for hours. I would sleep just two hours a night. This went on for 40 days,” he revealed. He battled anxiety attacks, depression, and even considered quitting cricket. Only his close circle knew about his struggles.

Adding to the pain were dating rumours linking him to influencer RJ Mahvash. Chahal clarified that these were misleading. “We had a Christmas dinner with five people. The photo was cropped to look like just us. Another video showed her dropping me at the airport. I was fixing my hair, and people twisted it. That really hurt.”

During one court hearing, he wore a T-shirt reading “Be Your Own Sugar Daddy.” Social media buzzed with speculation, but Chahal explained it was just his subtle way of responding. “I didn’t abuse anyone. I gave my message silently.”

Despite the turmoil, Chahal is finding his way back. Playing county cricket for Northamptonshire, he recently bagged 6/118 against Derbyshire, showing he still has plenty to offer on the field. Looking ahead, he said, “I’ll fall in love again. But I’m scared of losing the person. I get attached to the core.”

Chahal’s story is more than just a divorce tale. It’s about mental health, judgment in public life, and resilience. From depression to rumours, he’s endured immense pain, but his honesty and courage remind fans that comebacks aren’t just about wickets—they’re about standing tall after life’s toughest overs.
