Apple has entrusted Tata Group with the responsibility of handling repairs for iPhones and MacBooks in India, marking a significant expansion of their partnership.

This development strengthens Tata’s growing role in Apple’s global supply chain as the tech giant shifts more operations beyond China.

Tata already assembles iPhones at three facilities in southern India, with one plant in Karnataka also producing components.

As India becomes Apple’s focus for both manufacturing and sales, this move reflects the company’s long-term confidence in Tata.

Apple sold around 11 million iPhones in India last year, up from just 1% market share in 2020 to 7% in 2024. India, now the world’s second-largest smartphone market, offers immense potential for growth in device sales and servicing.

Currently, Apple’s authorized service centres in India only perform basic repairs. With Tata’s new role, more complex repair work will now be centralized at their facility.

This shift could pave the way for Apple to start selling refurbished devices in India, a model already successful in the U.S.

Wistron’s ICT unit will continue servicing other clients, while phasing out Apple-related work. Both Apple and Wistron have not commented publicly, and Tata has declined to provide a statement.

As global supply chains diversify, Apple’s growing reliance on India and the Tata Group marks a major shift in strategy.
