If you are intelligent enough, you can always find multiple uses for one single product. The recent incident involving Spotify is indeed remarkable, frightening, and concerning at the same time. A Swedish newspaper is reporting that some criminal gangsters are using the app to launder money.
The technique is quite innovative and should be acknowledged. These organizations use funds to pay for false broadcasts of songs by musicians associated with the gang. This inflates the earnings of the artists, which, in turn, is used for criminal activities.
The report also mentions that they were employing multiple techniques to achieve this, all with the same goal in mind: converting their illicit funds into Bitcoins, thereby funding the gang-affiliated artists. Shockingly, this occurrence is fairly common in the Swedish rap scene.
This issue could create significant problems if it spreads to a global stage. Firstly, it is very challenging to detect, and even if someone does notice something suspicious, there is virtually no way to trace it.
With the growing market, this problem is likely to worsen, making it the responsibility of viewers and honest artists to step forward and assist law enforcement in identifying such issues.
