Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has launched a new artificial intelligence project called Superintelligence Labs. This marks Meta’s biggest push so far in the race to build advanced AI systems.
The new lab will directly compete with leading players like Google DeepMind and OpenAI, the creators of ChatGPT. The goal is to create general-purpose AI that can outperform humans across a wide range of tasks.
To power this ambitious plan, Meta is hiring some of the world’s top AI experts — and offering massive pay packages.
One of the biggest hires is Trapit Bansal, an AI researcher from IIT Kanpur. Meta has reportedly offered him $100 million (about Rs. 835 crore).
He is well-known for his work in deep learning and natural language processing and has worked with major research labs in the United States.
Another major recruit is Ruoming Pang, a former senior AI scientist at Apple. He’s being brought in with an even bigger offer — $200 million (around Rs. 1,670 crore).
Ruoming Pang is an expert in neural networks and large language models, the core technology behind tools like ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini.
These high-profile hires show how serious Meta is about leading the next wave of AI innovation. The company already has its own family of models called LLaMA (Large Language Model Meta AI).
With Superintelligence Labs, Meta plans to go further by building AI systems that can be used across industries. The labs will be based in the United States and other international hubs.
Meta may also make some of its AI tools open source, continuing its trend of sharing research with the broader developer community.
For many ordinary Indians, these salary numbers are mind-blowing. The idea of someone earning over Rs. 800 crores — let alone Rs. 1,600 crores — feels like something out of a movie.
In a country where even top engineers earn a few lakh rupees a year, such pay offers show just how valuable AI skills have become.
It has sparked new excitement among students, tech professionals, and families who now see AI as a gateway to global success.
Meta’s bold move has made the global AI race even more intense. With talent from India being hired for such record-breaking salaries, it’s clear that the country’s role in shaping the future of technology is only growing stronger.
