He disputed the idea that artificial intelligence would replace workers, pointing out that technical development can improve creative labour. Sarandos thinks that rather than replacing exceptional talent, the individual who uses AI skillfully may end up replacing them.
He feels that Netflix could have achieved the same level of success as the recent box office triumphs of “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer”. Sarandos thinks AI will improve creative work rather than replace exceptional skill.
Reed Sarandos, the CEO of Netflix, highlighted that writers, directors, and editors would continue to leverage AI technology to increase productivity and effectiveness in their work. Using animation as an example—which goes from hand-drawn to computer-generated—he said that more individuals are working in this industry.
In addition, Sarandos acknowledged that Barbie and Oppenheimer would have achieved similar success on Netflix and apologised for drawing comparisons between Netflix and HBO in the early stages of the streaming service. He likened the battle against home video and the difficulty of obtaining television licences for motion pictures to the developments in entertainment technologies.
