Air India has confirmed the return of direct flights between Delhi and Rome after a six year gap. This marks a key step in the airline’s international revival. If you travel frequently between India and Europe, this route brings back a long-missed non stop option.
Direct Delhi to Rome Flights Resume in 2026
The service restarts on March 25, 2026 with four flights every week. You will be able to fly between Indira Gandhi International Airport and Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport. Air India will operate the route using Boeing 787-8 aircraft with business and economy class seating.
Part of Air India’s Global Network Rebuild
This move fits into Air India’s wider plan to rebuild its global presence. The Delhi to Rome route was suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic. As operations stabilised, the airline began restoring long haul routes step by step.
Benefits for Leisure and Business Travellers
With direct access to Italy’s capital, travel becomes smoother for leisure and business passengers. You also gain better onward connections through Delhi to South and Southeast Asia. The route helps strengthen cultural and economic links between India and Italy.
Revival After a Difficult Phase
The announcement comes after a challenging period for the airline. Following the crash of Air India Flight AI171 near Ahmedabad in June 2025, international capacity was reduced. Safety checks, schedule changes, and lower passenger confidence affected several routes.
Rome Route Signals Recovery and Stability
For Air India, this is more than restarting a single route. It reflects progress after setbacks from the pandemic and the loss of trust after the crash. The return of long haul services shows steady momentum in global operations.
A Positive Sign for Indian Aviation
The restored Delhi–Rome connection is also a boost for India’s aviation sector. As travel demand grows, the route highlights Air India’s intent to expand its international footprint and offer reliable global connectivity.
