Air India is once again facing scrutiny for breaking aviation rules. Just five months after being pulled up by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the airline is back in the spotlight for new scheduling and compliance lapses.
Pilots Found Flying Without Proper Licences
Reports reveal that a co-pilot and a senior captain were taken off duty after violating mandatory licensing and training rules. The Airbus A320 co-pilot reportedly flew without clearing the bi-annual Pilot Proficiency Check (PPC) or completing the required re-evaluation.
Senior Captain Flew with Expired Licence
In another case, a senior commander operated a flight even though his English Language Proficiency (ELP) licence had expired. Such an oversight raises serious questions about the airline’s internal safety and qualification checks.
Air India Responds to Violations
Air India confirmed that both pilots and the scheduling team responsible have been taken off duty. The airline also stated that disciplinary action has started, and corrective steps are being taken to prevent similar mistakes in the future.
DGCA Launches Investigation
The DGCA has ordered a detailed report and begun an investigation into Air India’s oversight systems. The regulator had already warned the airline in June about repeated scheduling failures and weak compliance monitoring.
Repeated Lapses Raise Safety Concerns
These recurring issues point to deeper problems within Air India’s operations. The airline’s repeated mistakes question its internal accountability and commitment to strict aviation safety standards.
