Ancient Lufthansa Flight: Broken Seats, Worst Tech

Lufthansa flight experience

Flying Lufthansa for the first time turned into a major disappointment for a seasoned traveler who had completed over 400 flights. What he hoped would be a reliable European airline experience turned out to be one of the worst he’d ever encountered, despite arriving at destinations on time with luggage intact.

The trouble began with Lufthansa’s digital systems, which were slow and full of errors. The website repeatedly erased paid seat selections, forcing the passenger to manually reassign seats multiple times across six flights. Attempts to resolve the issue via customer service were futile, as the chat system frequently failed to connect or crashed midway.

Check-ins were equally frustrating. Even for connecting flights under the same reservation, the airline required separate check-ins through clunky, crash-prone multi-page forms. To make matters worse, the system wouldn’t save passport information, requiring the same details to be re-entered every time.

Onboard, the situation didn’t improve. The aircraft felt ancient, with broken seatback pockets and non-functional USB ports. Even transatlantic flights lacked power outlets. Lavatory conditions were below acceptable standards, with only two out of four functioning on one flight.

Retrieving receipts also became a nightmare. Lufthansa issues separate document numbers for checked baggage and seat selection fees, and accessing them online required navigating a confusing and poorly designed website.

This traveler’s experience suggests Lufthansa is struggling to maintain its former reputation. Despite safety and punctuality, outdated equipment, unreliable technology, and weak customer service have significantly affected overall passenger satisfaction. Lufthansa may still take you where you need to go, but the journey feels unnecessarily stressful.
