If the UK is your next desired destination to get that next degree and settle for a job, you probably need to rethink that plan. Lately, finding an established job is becoming more difficult for global citizens, even those who pursued undergraduate or postgraduate degrees in the country.
This problem is multifaceted, caused by a multitude of issues, from the post-pandemic economic slowdown to VISA complications. There are numerous reasons contributing to the problem.
The problems are not caused by employers, as some of them get demotivated by the complexity. One report is coming up regarding an Indian student who was working in a local sports coaching company. Even though he was a great asset to the company, they were unable to offer him a full-time job as they didn’t have the scholarship rights. The only solution they could figure out for him was to work as a consultant from India.
Sponsoring visas is also something the company doesn’t like doing, so they usually opt for local candidates even if foreign ones have relevant skills and qualifications.
Even data came out that International students contribute 10 times more to the economy than they take out. In 2020, India contributed to the second-largest student pool, but when it comes to job acceptance, the numbers go low. Previously, the number was as low as 11.9%, but it is rumored to fall even more.
There have been incidents where students have applied for hundreds of jobs but left unanswered due to the relevant issue. So, a good degree doesn’t really ensure the best of jobs, even if you are one of the brightest. Besides the UK, the USA and Canada offer a bit different situations, but the former one ensures a more complicated VISA system.
