Indian IT giants are bracing themselves for potential policy changes under Trump’s return. This might include some major reforms to H-1B visas that can have an adverse effect on their operations.

We got a hint of this during Trump’s last presidency as the rejection rate for work visas surged under stricter rules. While the goal was to protect American jobs, it left Indian companies struggling.

Even this time around, the $250 billion Indian tech industry, employing over five million people, could face significant disruptions. While some major players like HCL are less dependent on H-1B workers, other firms and smaller companies can take a massive dig.

Trump recently described the H-1B policy as a “great program” boosting the community with optimism. Meanwhile, Elon Musk, who is not only a Trump supporter but now one of his advisors, shifted his stance on the program after supporting it earlier.

Therefore, there is uncertainty and doubt looming over Indian skilled labor. Even minor policy changes could have ripple effects throughout the community.




The best thing the big firms could do is to adapt to the new policies in the future and switch to more local employees. However, there is no assurance of what will happen to the large Indian workforce that will struggle as a result.
