As India has already reached its H-1B visa limit in the US, aspiring applicants have once again been left waiting for another year. However, as there are still job vacancies in the country, the US is finally considering removing the per-country cap on H-1B visas.
Sriram Krishnan, Trump’s new Senior Policy Advisor for AI with a clear vision for fair immigration, might be the key person behind this change. The Indian-origin techie has a better understanding of the employment market in the country and can advise Trump to let skilled workers be hired based on merit rather than their country of origin.
Indians have to wait for long periods, sometimes extending over years, to get their US visas approved. If the H-1B limit is removed, it will not just bring relief to applicants but also boost the US economy.
However, the influx of foreign talent will also make it hard for the local workers to get jobs. With Trump sporting his “America First” motto leading to his second term, the decision to remove this limit will not be that easy.
