Varun Dhawan’s Baby John did not match up to the audience’s expectations when it came out at Christmas last year. Considering that the box office collections were not up to the mark, the film is now scheduled to arrive sooner on an OTT platform than the expected time.
A few reports have claimed that the film will be released on Amazon Prime Video in February or March this year. However, the streaming platform has yet to confirm the news from their side.

This was expected to happen since the film did not create a lot of buzz when the trailers and songs came out.
Furthermore, it was a remake of Thalapathy Vijay’s Theri, which was helmed by Atlee. While Atlee was also associated with Baby John as a producer, it seems like his involvement did not help much in the film’s success.

The biggest problem of the film was selecting Varun Dhawan for a role that did not suit him at all. He does not look like a police officer and his face is more perfect for roles in romantic films. Maybe the film would have worked if he entered into this genre a few years later.
Apart from that, Baby John was a bad adaptation of Theri. It will always remain a mystery why director Kalees did not opt to go for a direct remake instead of adapting the original screenplay with bad execution.

On top of everything, there was no need to cast Salman Khan for a cameo. It was unnecessary and ridiculous to bring a superstar for a special appearance just because they wanted to earn crores at the box office.
The failure of Baby John is proof that a good script and storyline are the main backbone of a film. You just can’t go on casting a random actor to play any role and bring a popular face towards the end to attract the audience.
Baby John should be a perfect example for all the filmmakers who are planning remakes. It is the best time to drop those plans and create original stories so that audiences don’t get a chance to troll Bollywood again.
