In terms of quality, Apple TV stands out as one of the top players. Their recent venture to back theatrical films appears to be a long-term game plan. However, in the short run, how viable is it?
Previously, they invested money and merit in Martin Scorsese’s creation, “Killers Of The Flower Moon,” which fans loved. Yet, in the box office scenario, the picture wasn’t that pretty.
Amidst that, “Napoleon” was on the verge of certain controversies and questions. It also received a plethora of criticisms regarding accuracy, but besides that, Scott has tackled it in a great way.
“Napoleon” will be competing with “Wish,” possibly even beating it on the first day of battle. With $3M in previews, the film is projected to earn $15M-$22M as the Thanksgiving weekend approaches.
One might assume this is because of the short theatrical window, but it can be further from the truth. “Five Nights At Freddy’s” made a similar approach and is now sitting at the top in terms of horror films.
These types of films will undoubtedly work for the betterment of the platform as they are viewer magnets. However, for these, they will have to take some smaller hits, making small sacrifices for a later victory.
